Monastery pork roast

A very interesting recipe for me! I saw it presented by Ivan Zvezdev as an old Bulgarian recipe from the Bachkovo Monastery. And since I can definitely call myself now a fan of the old and forgotten Bulgarian dishes, I decided to introduce it to you …

Very easy, and suitable for beginner cooks! And super delicious!

Enjoy! 🙂

НАЧИН НА ПРИГОТВЯНЕ:

1

Cut the meat into pieces similar to steaks. Don't worry, they don't have to be with exactly the same thickness.
Place the meat in salted water (about 1 liter) and cook it for about 20 minutes until almost ready.

2

Chop the onion and add it to a deeper pan with the fat. Put it on a stove over moderate heat and fry until soft.

6

Add the tomatoes. Stir well.

7

Add the sugar and salt to taste. If you decide to add the grated or finely chopped ginger, the hot pepper, the cinnamon and the clove bud, now is the time. I decided these spices would add too string flavor to the dish and I missed them. But the decision is yours! 🙂

8

Add the freshly ground black pepper.

9

Add the red pepper. Stir well.
Simmer for about 5 minutes.

10

Blend the sauce well until a homogeneous mixture is obtained.

11

Take the meat out of the water and arrange it at the bottom of a baking pan about 20/30 cm in size. Do not throw away the broth, it is extremely valuable and can be used to prepare other dishes. I made a delicious vegetable soup with potatoes, carrots, peppers and peas.

Pour the sauce over the meat.

Cover the pan with aluminum foil and bake the dish in the oven at about 180 degrees for about 20-30 minutes.
